Story
My handlers (Sonja and Anna) and I are attempting the January 2013 Bajai Rally. We will be tackling 3000 km of jungley mayhem across Sumatra, Java and Bali (and the wet bits inbetween) in an auto-rickshaw…in the rainy season…in just two weeks…totally unsupported. With just our own cunning, wit and charm we will have to navigate a passable route, keep our rickshaw motoring and negotiate roofs over our heads. We will be facing danger at every turn from volcanos, bandits, un-roads, mud, failed brakes, nasi goreng and, most terrifying of all, massive spiders…and we are braving this near certain death to raise money for three excellent causes.
I am supporting the event’s official charity BirdLife International [http://www.birdlife.org], raising money for their Harapan Rainforest Initiative which works to protect Sumatra’s rainforest. To participate in the rally we MUST raise at least £500 for this charity.
Here you are contributing to BirdLife International but we are also raising money for two other deserving causes you may prefer:
Anna has chosen Macmillan [http://www.macmillan.org.uk], who give emotional, practical, medical and financial support to cancer patients and their families. Donate through the team page below.
Sonja has chosen BLESMA [http://www.blesma.org], the national charity for limbless serving and ex-service men and women and their dependants and widows. Donate through the team page below.
Rest assured, none of your money supports our “fun” – we are entirely self-funded - every penny you donate will go directly to our charities.
You will be able to track our progress and read about our hair raising escapades on our team page at http://www.theadventurists.com/its-a-shaw-thing.
