Story

Dad, on the few occasions that we ran together - including a 5K race in Hastings at the age of 60 in which he clocked in at 44 minutes (pictured) - had a fondness of repeating, as he struggled for breath, the words "I used to be an athlete!",  "I used to be an athlete!" over and over again.

This mantra nostalgically recalled for him when, as a teenager, he - while not exactly being an Olympic candidate - did take pride in winning short distance races and hurdles for his hometown of Eastbourne... Hence the address of this web page.

He passed away from Covid in August 2021. In the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

I'm running the Brighton half marathon to fundraise for the Sussex NHS Community charity to support them, in this modest way, so that anyone who passes through any of their wards, such as the ICU in which my father was given help, may receive the best care possible.

The minimum amount the charity asks us to raise is £200... But I'm hoping we can surpass that

The weekend of the event is that directly after my 29th birthday on the 22nd. So you may consider your donation a welcomed gift to me too - as well as to the NHS, and to my dad, Andrew.
