Bath Half Marathon and Bowood House Triathlon 2022

Bath Half Marathon 2022 · 16 October 2022 ·
On Saturday June 25th I will be attempting to swim, bike and run the Bowood House Triathlon and on Sunday 16th October I will be trying to haul myself around the Bath Half Marathon in memory of my father-in-law Bernie Ashton. Those who knew Bernie knew him as a larger than life character who always had a smile on his face. A beautiful human being dearly missed by his family and friends. Sadly Bernie passed away in July 2021 and in his final few years suffered with dementia.
Dementia is cruel and unrelenting. It gradually strips people of their ability to function, and strips families of their ability to communicate with their loved ones at a time when they are most vulnerable.
There is no cure for dementia and no treatments have been proven to slow its progression. However, there are drugs and non-drug treatments that can reduce symptoms. Ongoing research continues to advance knowledge of the causes of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, and exploring the development of new drugs either to give better relief from symptoms or – if possible – to slow down or stop the underlying disease in the brain.
Alzheimer's Society funds cutting-edge research into the cause, care, cure and prevention of dementia, and so if you're able to join us in donating something to this amazing society to help fund their ongoing research, we would be super grateful. It will also spur me on with my gruelling training regime (all training is gruelling :-), which you can hopefully follow by looking at my Strava updates on this page!
Thank you for your support.
