Hi Everyone,
From 23 – 25 October, Bobby, Jacqui, Jovana and myself will take part in an epic weekend cycling extravaganza, undertaken by m2m's committed supporters, and go the extra mile in solidarity with mothers2mothers’ (m2m) frontline health heroes. Mentor Mothers often cycle far and wide to reach marginalised and vulnerable clients, so this October we are asking you to pedal with us towards our goal of zero transmission of HIV and COVID-19. Together, we will collectively pedal 5,000km and raise vital funds to support m2m's frontline health heroes - Mentor Mothers, with our personal goal being to cover 50 miles.
As COVID-19 hits the African continent with full force, the more than one million women, children, and families we serve need us more than ever. m2m's frontline staff – the amazing women living with HIV m2m employs as Mentor Mothers across 10 countries – are bolstering sub-Saharan Africa’s under-resourced health systems while supporting their clients to stay healthy and safe in the face of two pandemics—COVID-19 and HIV. The challenge usually takes place in one of the African countries where m2m work, but this year due to travel restrictions caused by COVID-19, for the first time ever, the cycle will be virtual and open to everyone.
Since m2m was founded in 2001 over 11 million women and children under the age of two have been reached with direct services, and over 11,000 jobs have been created for women living with HIV. m2m's dream is of a world where no mother dies of AIDS and no baby is born with HIV. We hope that Cycle2Zero@home can help not only turn the tide of COVID-19 in Africa but create healthy families free from HIV. Ending HIV is just the start.
We have not set a fundraising goal and we have no expectations. This year has been difficult for everyone many in so many different ways, therefore we are grateful for any support that comes our way.
Thank you again,
Andrea, Jacqui, Jovana and Bobby
