Sense Ethiopia Trek · 22 October 2016 to 31 October 2016 ·

Sense is here to support disabled people from the first weeks of life through all the major milestones of adulthood. Over 70 years, we’ve built extensive knowledge and expertise in supporting disabled people with complex needs, including deafblind people.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page (it’s the first one we have ever created!). We are now on our 17th Crabtree trek and boy, will this year’s trek be a challenge?! The three youngest KIDS are joining us for the very first time!

Yes - myself, John, Jamie, Robbie & Jessie are all off to the Simien Mountains; five days trekking up to 12 hours a day reaching 4,500m altitude and five nights under canvas. So let’s just put that into perspective; that’s NO PlayStation, NO Xbox, NO hair straighteners, NO bed, NO TV! How on earth will we cope, let alone the kids! We're very much hoping the three adult 'kids' might be joining us as well so all eight Crabtrees may well be on this adventure.

There is a compelling reason for such an effort this year…Sense are embarking on a wonderful new project called TouchBase in Selly Oak, Birmingham. It’s a £14m build that is currently underway and will be finished by Summer 2017. Every penny raised from the trek will go towards this fantastic new development which will provide a welcoming environment to the whole community and vital services for deafblind people. TouchBase is an inspiring and innovative project with a vision that people working together can make a real difference.  You can find out more about TouchBase if you visit www.letsbuildtouchbase.org.
