Right then - it may come as much of a surprise to you as it has to me that I will be running the Great North Run on 20th September 2009 (yes I think it's less than a week away!!). This is the world's biggest half marathon taking in 13.1 miles of glorious Newcastle and Gateshead.

I will be running for two charties/reasons:

The first is Candlelighters Trust - this is a small-ish charity dedicated to combatting childhood cancer, leukaemia and serious blood disorders as well as making the lives of the children and their families more bareable. A subject close to home for me as a friend's 4 year old daughter was recently diagnosed with 'high risk stage 4 neuroblastoma' and has to have 3 days of chemo every 10 days.

The second is you and me - basically for anyone who's always thought about doing something similar and for whatever reason just never got round to actually doing it.

So although  I know times are hard please dig as deep as you charity budget allows - I promise not to make a habit of this!!
