Hello, thanks for coming to read my story, I'm very grateful!
This summer I am running two marathons, the Brighton Marathon (9th April 2017) and the Mourne Way Marathon (10th June). These two marathons will be the first marathons that I have ever ran. I'm putting a lot of blood, sweat and tears into training for these marathons whilst keeping on top of university work, a part-time job and boxing training. BUT it's all going to be worth it whenever I reach my target goal.
The charity I have chosen is Heartbeat-NI. Hearbeat-NI is a parent-led Northern Ireland voluntary charity. They support the Clark Clinic at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children, the paediatric cardiac unit for the Northern Ireland. They also support the provision of an MRI Scanner for the Children's Hospital.
The reason I have chosen this charity is to help support these wonderful people and the hard work that they put into their organisation. My little brother Jamie passed away when he was 10 weeks old due to a heart defect on 20th December 1997. I want to help support this charity to protect other young people born with heart problems.. Not a day goes by without me thinking of Jamie and how much of an amazing impact he had on my life. I feel that competing in these two marathons and being able to support this wonderful charity would fill me with great pride because I am able to help out a charity that is closely linked with my family circle. I want to make my little brother proud by achieving something that I thought I would never be able to achieve.
My aim is to raise £500 and I would love to be able to meet that target before I run my second marathon on 10th June 2017.
Thanks again for reading my story,
Jack McCann.
