Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
What am I doing to raise money?
On 29th September, come rain or shine, I will be trekking 50km (or 31 miles for those, like me, who don't understand km) across the Chiltern Hills in aid of Parkinson's UK.
For those that know me, they'll understand that I'm more of a coach potato than a long distance walker - when I was younger, I used to enjoy cross-country running, but following my knees rapidly out-aging me, I stopped this habit, and you'll likely see me hobbling when the weather cools, so this should be a real challenge.
Why am I doing it?
It's estimated that 1 in every 350 adults has Parkinson's disease, a debilitating illness which can cause tremors in movement and stiffness in joints which can make basic tasks like walking very difficult.
Personally, my Grandad is affected by Parkinson's, as well as a type of dementia which has meant that not only has his movement been slowed and made more difficult, his personality has also been dampened by dementia; an insidious combination, with no cure, but a list of medication which make some symptoms better, and others a lot worse.
My brother is also joining me for the trek, raising money for Alzheimer's UK, another fantastic charity, supporting individuals with Alzheimer's and dementia. If you would like to donate to his page, it can be found here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/adam-douglass1
