450 mile Kayak from London to Lands End · 15 June 2018

Over 150,000 of us in the UK have MS. It’s unpredictable and different for everyone. But it doesn’t have to be this way. We’re the MS Society. We understand what life’s like with MS. We're here for you through the highs, lows and everything in between. Together, we are strong enough to stop MS.

Following such generous donations beyond all expectation,
we have created an Instagram page where we will post pictures as we go along:

London to Lands End by kayak

This summer, Raf and I are planning to go by kayak from London to Lands End in Cornwall. We will be doing the 400 mile trip over two weeks from Friday 15th June. The route we will take is from Hammersmith along the Thames to Weybridge, then along the canal to Pulborough to join the Arun river, joining the sea at Littlehampton and following the south coast past the Isle of Wight, Bournemouth, Weymouth, Exeter, Plymouth and into Cornwall. We will camp each night and hope to cover 30 to 40 miles a day, depending on weather and tides.

The main challenges will be fighting very strong tides of up to 6mph at headlands, particularly in Devon and Cornwall, passing the very exposed Lizard peninsula, the southernmost point in England, potential storms coming up from the Atlantic, navigating a half built canal between Guildford and Pulborough and keeping warm for such a long amount of time. As this particular journey hasn’t often been done before, it should be an exciting challenge and a good way to see English countryside and coast in a unique way.

Having decided to do this trip, I then thought of raising some sponsorship for my colleague and good friend at work Liz.
Liz has Multiple Schlerosis a muscle disease that restricts one’s ability to enjoy sport and hearty exercise and weakens the immune system, particularly during the winter. Currently there is not yet a cure for this disease. It seemed sporting to raise funds for the Multiple Sclerosis Society support people with this disease and engage in research to
help end MS in the future.

If you would like to sponsor our attempt at this trip to raise money for the MS association, that would be very much appreciated.

If you happen to be free and would like to meet us anywhere along the way, the progress we would hope to make each day would be:

Saturday 16th – Guildford
Sunday 17th – Pulborough
Monday 18th – West Wittering
Tuesday 19th – Yarmouth, Isle of Wight
Wednesday 20th – Swanage
Thursday 21st – Weymouth
Friday 22nd – West Bay, Bridport
