Jacks Kungsleden Hike · 11 July 2022

NASS is only charity in the UK dedicated to supporting people with axial spondyloarthritis (AS), a painful, progressive rheumatic disease which mainly affects the spine. An estimated 200,000 people live with AS in the UK. Our 90+ branches across the UK offer regular exercise to anyone with AS.

Story

From July to August this year I’ll be attempting a solo hike of the whole of Northern Swedens Kungsleden trail.

Kungsleden passes through varied landscape in the Lapland mountain world. There are dramatic changes along the way between alpine terrain and low-lying mountain birch forest. A journey along Kungsleden takes you through verdant mountain heaths surrounded by tarns and dramatic peaks, and the trail also passes through several mountain villages.

Kungsleden passes through four national parks: Abisko, Stora Sjöfallet, Sarek and Pieljekaise. Reindeer husbandry is carried out along the complete length of the trail, and visitors must show consideration. The trail is well-marked and bridges take you easily over what would otherwise be difficult fast-flowing streams.’

As someone with Ankylosing Spondylitis I thought I would raise some money for the NASS along the way as they provided great support when I was initially diagnosed around 10 years ago.

Every penny will go to NASS: Find out more about Axial Spa and the work NASS does here:

Thanks!
