Virgin London Marathon 2013 · 21 April 2013 ·

Woking & Sam Beare Hospice is a charity that delivers specialist palliative care to adult patients of all ages who have life-limiting and terminal illnesses in the North West Surrey region, providing free of charge holistic care and support services both in our hospice and in homes.

Story

In memory of my Dad, I am being put through my paces by running the 2013 London Marathon in aid of Woking Hospice.

The final weeks of my Dad's life were spent at Woking Hospice where they provided the most dignified care our family could have wished for.

The stubborn man he was, my Dad always had a great fear and resistance to ever being in the position where he would have to be taken to a hospice to rely on the stewardship of others; but having witnessed first-hand the amazing work the hospice does, I can honestly say he was wrong to ever doubt their support.

Woking Hospice relies heavily upon the fundrasing efforts of others, so it is with great honour I now have the opportunity to have my own input in to this wonderful cause.

My Dad always said he and I would run the marathon for charity once he got better. Unfortunately, he won't be on the Start Line come next April, so it's only right I hold up my end of the bargain.
