What is the race?

The Spartan Ultra is described as a unique and brutal challenge with formidable elevation gain, darkness, extreme weather, and unexpected challenges.

However, to really push myself and make it worth you donating, I have chosen a particularly challenging course in the French Alps. This year's course included: 

• 4200m elevation gain. ~Half the height of Mt. Everest
• 30 degree temperatures
• 53km (33 miles) of running
• 64 gruelling obstacles

To make things even harder, I will be entering the competitive Age Group category of the race which means that if I fail any of the obstacles, I will have to complete 30 burpees for every failed obstacle.

What am I doing to prepare?

Most of you know that I'm fairly active but this will be the first race I've been truly daunted by. Therefore over the next 9 months I'll be putting in the effort to ensure I can complete the course within the time limit. 

In the lead-up to the big day I'll be completing a number of other races such as: 

• Limestone Way - 17 mile trail race
• Spartan Beast London South East - 13 miles, 30 obstacles
• Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon - 26.2 miles
