Jack's cycling the RideLondon 100 for Maggie's cancer support charity

RideLondon 2022 · 29 May 2022 ·
In September 2019 my partner Aimee was diagnosed with breast cancer. In the months that followed she had to undergo chemo and radiotherapy, in addition to a double masectomy/reconstruction and lymph node removal.
This was, understandably, an extremely difficult and challenging time for her, and her family. Maggie's offered an emotional safety-net, which meant that Aimee and her loved ones had a welcoming place to recieve support, whether in the form of cups of tea after treatment, financial advice (getting insurance after a cancer diagnosis is tricky) or even health and fitness classes.
Maggie's was also somewhere she could go to meet people her age who were going through similar experiences with cancer, and she made two lifelong friends as a result.
Aimee and I met in August 2020, four months after she recieved her last dose of radiotherapy. Her zest for life and my dazzling good looks (I may be embellishing slightly) meant that we hit it off immediately, and for several months the biggest issue we had to contend with was the length of the queue at Dishoom.
Unfortunately in February 2021, Aimee was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer. Her care team had identified multiple brain tumours, which would need to be treated swiftly with stereotactic radiotherapy. While this treatment has shown signs of success, unfortunately we have recently found out that more will be needed in March 2022.
We will certainly be depending on Maggie's for their friendly support again, and that's why I will be cycling 100 miles in the RideLondon 100 on Sunday May 29 2022. I am hoping to raise £1,000 for this wonderful charity which has helped people I love, and many others, to face the brutal challenge that cancer presents.
Every £100 raised will cover ten miles ridden. Please donate what you can.
