Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As if I haven't got enough to do this year (!) I've set myself a challenge to walk 1000 miles over the course of 2023 to raise awareness of thrombosis and, hopefully, raise a little money for Thrombosis UK.
I've chosen this cause as my lovely Mum died as a result of pulmonary embolism back in 2009. Although I've dabbled in fundraising in recent years, I've never done anything for this particular charity, so it's time to put that right.
This may not seem like a big challenge to some people (I am in awe of many of my friends who take on amazing physical challenges on a regular basis). But, having recently undertaken a sponsored activity to walk 92 miles in one month and only just managing it by the skin of my teeth, I think a sustained project like this one will be quite testing for me!
In the interests of transparency & clarity:
1) This target will be achieved (or maybe exceeded!) by 31 December 2023
2) I MAY include some jogged miles (if I ever manage to motivate myself to do 'Couch to 5k...)
3) I won't include miles walked as part of any of my usual annual walking challenges this year (i.e. the September Memory Walk for Alzheimer's Society, the River Ribble Ramble or the Santa Dash for Brian House)
4) I'll be tracking the miles using the MapMyWalk app (note to self - switch the bloomin' thing ON...)
Thrombosis remains a major cause of death in the UK yet
many people have little or no understanding about the causes and effects of thrombosis, and how it can be prevented.
Everyone should be aware of thrombosis and the potential life threatening and life changing consequences it can cause.
Thrombosis UK works to increase awareness, support research and extend understanding through education and the sharing of information to improve care for all those affected by thrombosis.
