Story
Hi everyone and Happy New Year.
We (Dave, Jackie, and Dominic) are embarking upon a huge challenge in 2021 that we think will be testing and hopefully worthy of your sponsorship for a very worthy cause. 2020 has undeniably been a tough one for everyone. Our chosen charity, who do wonderful things for people facing and experiencing homelessness in our area, relies entirely on donations and fundraising and have seen a reduction in funding this year of around 50%. There are more homeless people than ever in our area, a situation which has only been made worse by this current climate. Even in the toughest year when we miss our loved ones and find spending time apart from them hard, we have the luxury of being at home every night in our own bed under our own roof. Homelessness is not a choice and the factors which often trigger homelessness are potentially familiar to everyone – family rows, family breakdown, divorce, drink, drugs, missed education, loss of job, or health problems. In a year which has seen so many people affected by one of these potential triggers we are fortunate enough to still have a job, a home, a bed and food in our cupboards so would like to try to help others less fortunate. So many people have heard this past year that they no longer have a job and this must bring with it incredible uncertainty and worry. Prior to Christmas 4800 people across the region (Derby, Nottingham and Leicester) were without a permanent home. We would like to make a small difference through your sponsorship.
So the challenge…
We will, as a team, aim to complete 3000 miles over 160 days from 1st January 2021 to 9th June 2021 by either running, walking, swimming or cycling. Our normal day to day activity of work, school
etc. do not count towards the miles. That is 18.7 miles…per day for the team! To add to that we will climb a ‘peak’ for every month in this period – that’s 5 peaks and we all need to complete them (restrictions permitting!)
Dominic will also do additional fund raising events, cake
sales etc. as he did last time…..restrictions permitting!
However small your sponsorship or donation, it will make a difference and will really spur us on.
If you can afford to we would very much appreciate your
support and thank you for reading. Apologies now for the many posts on social media and hounding of people to sponsor us.
Please do take care in these difficult times.
Thanks
Dave, Jackie, and Dominic
