Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
The start of our great adventure.........
As most of you are aware, I can be a wee bit out ma tree at times (Not always a bad thing I say) Well, last year saw the rise of the latest ‘great’ idea - that we– that would be the royal we of course – head off to China on a jolly good trek along the wall and whilst doing so, we could raise funds for CLIC Sargent the Children’s Cancer Charity.
The inspiration for this adventure came from a work colleague who worked tirelessly to raise funds for the charity and went on a great sponsored adventure to Machu Piccu to help raise funds for a charity very close to his heart.
I spoke to my lovely son Ian, who thought it was a great idea and then, in the next breath (before realisation sunk in for Ian) , gave ma wee pal Marian a call – Picture the scene:
‘Ring, ring,’
Marian – ‘hello’
Jackie –‘ I’ve got a great idea’
Marian – ‘Oh god no, what am I getting into?’
Jackie – ‘ Don’t panic, it’s nothing drastic’ (Small silence) ‘We’re just going to China’
Marian ‘ Ok, when do we leave?’ (She didn’t even blink)
Jackie – ‘I’ll call you later with the details’
End of callJ
We were on our way to china!!
From that moment on we have been fundraising for the charity. We have set a target of six thousand but in reality would like to make ten thousand pounds - we can only aim high :) And, as you can see from our pages - we could get there.
We are all paying our own fares and expenses (Never mentioned that in ma call to Marian either!) so every penny of sponsorship we get goes directly to the charity.
Ian has been working all year gardening, making bird nest boxes and bird feeders and at AM plant before it changed hands – he has raised just about all his fare through his work and activities himself and his Dad and I have pledged to pay for the rest (Injections, visa and travel to London) Thought we had better since he is still at schoolJ
We have been welcome at table sales and have organised events, one being the Dragon Festival in the Burgh Hall Dunoon, to mark this year being Chinese year of the dragon.
What a great success.
Marian ran an art competition which involved all the school children entering a dragon picture to us with £1 donation. What a great response we had. We made £641 from the art competition alone! The festival in the hall was great - fun kids’ activities stalls and of course the home baking! Hmmm home baking……..back on track Jackie, which brought in another £ 458.50 so we are really pleased.
We put out the feelers last year for bric -a-brac and have had a great response.
One donation that has really made an impression on me was a chap who called my house and said that he had met me at a car boot sale and that he remembered we were looking for donations of bric-a-brac. Well, I wasn’t quite prepared for the donation he made. It was a full Schreiber kitchen! (if we wanted it that was) he thought we might be able to get something for it. Never saying no to anything, I made a call or two and within the week the kitchen had been dismantled and taken to another home. Being a nail bender to trade, I volunteered my time to build the kitchen for the recipient who kindly donated £400 to the charity. Both the chap who donated the kitchen and the recipient are delighted – as am I with the donation to the charity.
I am now at the bit in the splurge where I ask you to take a minute of your time and sponsor our great wall challenge.
We are taking off for China in September - and feel I must be madder than a hatter! Anyway, I would be grateful if you could find it in you to sponsor us - even a Small donation of £1 It really does all help.
Thanks in anticipation of a huge influx of donations J
