Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have launched Challenge 60 to raise funds for Quidenham Children's Hospice, whilst embracing old age(I am in my 60th year!) through challenging and worthwhile targets.
Jackson Luke Robinson is the 3rd and youngest child in my daughter Karen and son-in-law Paul’s family and he is my 5th grandchild. Jackson was born on 11th August 2009. He was full term and weighed a healthy 7lbs 3ozs. He appeared to feed well but failed to thrive. He was an absolute mystery to medical staff and at five months old, he was diagnosed with autoimmune enteropathy.
Autoimmune enteropathy is a very rare condition that occurs when the body's own immune system attacks the intestinal wall and affects the way it absorbs .It is so rare that to date we have no contact with anyone in this country who has the condition and have only discovered three girls who have it in the USA. Jackson is tube fed for 20 hours a day and is very small for his age, but despite this he is crawling and stands up against furniture. He is a lovely, happy little boy, who manages to engage everyone around him, but is in need of 24/7 care.
I have chosen Quidenham Children’s Hospice as the designated recipient, as they have been a tremendous support for Karen, Paul, Poppy-Mae, Blake and Jackson. Quidenham have given and continue to give practical, emotional and moral support to the family and have been a real strength when times have been difficult. Quidenham rely on public support for the majority of income and I hope that my fundraising year will help to support and make a difference to the families of children with life threatening and complex health needs. It costs about £4,000 a day to run the Quidenham services.
My motive is to challenge the negative physical, mental and emotional stress that having a sick child in the family brings and to channel it into something positive. So I really hope that The Jackson Robinson Fund for Quidenham Children’s Hospice will raise a lot of money. My first target was to raise £10,000, but amazingly we crashed through that in 4 months. With an ace card up my sleeve and another 8 months of the challenge to go. I have raised the bar to £30,000. I believe this is challenging but not unreachable. Wish me luck!!
The ace card came with a whopping £15,000 from the Marsh/Capita Christmas car park and the target figure is now £50,000 with 5 months to go!
