Story

I do not have a personal story of my own but below is someone who does. Anyone who reads this page and would like to share their personal story below as part of the fund raising effort then please email me on jsworld79@hotmail.co.uk

Lesleyann White's Story:

My beautiful mother (pictured with me above) is afflicted with this debilitating and devastating disease. At only 64, she is in the mild to moderate stages, but as my Nanna suffered from Alzheimer's it is a disease that has haunted our family for a long time. As it does many families across the world.

The impact that Alzheimer's has on the person suffering from it, as well as the family caring for their loved one is immeasurable, and the number of people affected is astonishing. There are currently over 800,000 people with  Alzheimer's and other types of dementia in the UK, and this figure will rise to over 1 million by 2021. Worldwide, approximately 50 million people have dementia, which is terminal, there is no cure and one in three people over 65 will die with it.

It affects so many lives and yet funding for Alzheimer's research is pitiful. The Alzheimer’s Society supports people living with dementia as well as funding research to find a cure. Their work is vital to fighting Alzheimer's and they are in much need of your support.

Personally I feel that Alzheimer's is worse than cancer. Cancer is vile, but we do have ways to fight it, and survival rates are improving. And even if it does take you, you die as yourself. It's harrowing to grieve as you slowly lose someone you love to this disease, only to grieve again when they pass on.Imagine what it's like to go through it. Fear and confusion as you are slowly robbed of your dignity, memories and everything that make you who you are.

I am training for the 10k London race next year to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society but I wanted to do something to help this year. This trek is the perfect thing, and on my birthday too!

My wonderful husband Tim is doing this with me so we decided to just have one justgiving page to keep things simple. This is also why our aim is to raise £520, as the Alzheimer's society want us to raise a minimum of £260 each.

I know things are tight for everyone right now, but I am asking you to please sponsor Tim and I to do this trek and give as generously as you can. We have only 4 weeks to go until we go on our trek and a hell of a long way to go donation wise.

Anyone who knows me will know how affected I am by this in my life right now. It's heartbreaking. And I need to do something to make a difference. Please help me to do that.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
