ABP Southampton Marathon, Half Marathon & 10k 2021 · 5 September 2021 ·

We provide monitoring equipment and alarms to help keep young people living epilepsy safe and regain independence. We support and improve the mental health of bereaved siblings and close friends by funding counselling and other therapies. We work with organisations to promote awareness of SUDEP.

Story

I will be running the Southampton Half Marathon on Sunday 5th September in memory of Jon. With the amazing work the Jon Shaw Foundation does, I want to raise a little money and awareness for the cause.

I knew Jon from Secondary School where we both joined the CCF Navy Section, as well as having some classes together. Jon was always a joy to be around and was known for not only his smile but for making others smile too. We went on many adventures together, from school trips to New York and Chamonix, to CCF trips learning to sail.

The Jon Shaw Foundation was set up in memory of Jon, who died aged 19 from SUDEP (SUDDEN UNEXPECTED DEATH IN EPILEPSY) in June 2019.

The charity aims to -

1. Support young people with epilepsy by providing grants for equipment such as alarms, monitors and other safety aids not normally available through NHS

.2. Provide services and activities to improve the mental health of bereaved siblings.

3. Promote awareness of SUDEP, work with and support other organisations specialising in the research of this devastating cause of premature mortality.
