GUT (Get Up There) 2023 · 3 March 2023 ·

The 15th Annual GUT is a Community Event to support the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation. Join or create a team to raise funds and climb the hills of Wentworth. Together we can raise awareness for the fight against colorectal cancer.

Story

The banner picture here is one the *very few* pictures I have of me and my sister Jennifer. It is fine though, because we have lots of time left in life to take more pictures because Jen survived Stage 3 rectal cancer three years ago.

Jen's battle inspired me to take better care of myself and be aware of the risk of colorectal cancer. Through the Get Up There (GUT) challenge we are helping raise awareness and money that will improve all my future colonoscopies (and yours too) in the Halifax region.

Please help by donating a bit of cash so we can raise awareness and build more screening capacity.

If you don't know about #colorectalcancer, you won't get screened, you won't get diagnosed, you may end up with advanced cancer before you even know you have it & you may die because of it!

I've been lucky to be screened since my sister was diagnosed, and it might help you too.

Funds raised through GUT have helped the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation purchase state-of-the-art equipment and technology used to screen for colorectal cancer.

In late 2022, Dartmouth General Hospital opened a 3rd Endoscopy Suite which is being used exclusively for screening FIT-positive patients, thanks to the efforts of GUT participants, sponsors and donors.
