Story
All,
I would like to thank you for supporting and sponsoring me in this year’s London marathon. It has been one of the toughest challenges I have ever done but equally one of the most memorable and emotional experiences in my life.
It is your support and the thought of being of help to the NSPCC that kept me going! Thanks to you, I was able to raised £3,027 for the NSPCC (part of approx. £100,000 raised by the Accenture runners alone) which will undoubtedly help prevent cruelty to children!
For a ‘first timer’ and a ‘non-runner’, I made it to the end in a respectful 3:57:41. The attached pictures are evidence of the pain I was going though with approx. 7 km to go.
For those interested in the statistics:
- finishing time: 3:57:41
- half-way time: 1:49:22
- planned distance 42.195 km (26 miles and 385 yards)
- real distance having to zig-zag around other runners 43.25 km (as if the marathon distance was not enough!)
- 1 loo break
- 3 cramp and stretching stops between km 37 and the end
- 1 escaped incident with another runner that fell in front of me
- 1 energy bar, 6 liquid gels, 1 lucazade and ~12 waters
- I will not describe how I feel today as this might put you off the thought of giving it a go yourself (if not done already), however I can say that I am in one peace and without injury
Thanks again,
Jacopo
