Story
Will run 11km, ride 25km, and probably crawl the last 6km to the finish line to raise money for a charity that has provided specialist services to survivors of sexual violence since it all started by some dedicated volunteers and landline above a pub in 1977.
RCTN is now one of the most well recognised and respected sexual violence support services in the North East for anyone who identifies that a women and girls service is right for them, who have experienced any form of sexual violence, recent or historic, whether it has been reported or not and is completely independent of the police.
RCTN provides trauma-informed therapy, EMDR, group work, a completely independent ISVA service specialising in working with people in rural areas, people with different learning needs, people with complex mental health conditions, young people, and people from the LGBTQ+ community. And of course, the helpline that started it all off in 1977 is still being run by volunteers, but as modern technology has moved on, people can also email if they feel unable to speak on the phone.
