This year, I am running the Cardiff Half Marathon to raise money for Headway in memory of my Bampy who suddenly passed away last year. 

Headway provided support to both my Nan and my Bampy during his illness and helped them find ways to cope. 

Before his aneurysm bleed back in 2011, we had no idea he had multiple aneurysms waiting to bust. He lead his life as an independent man, always working and making us all laugh with his hilarious dry wit and humour.

His life changing surgeries didn’t change his sense of humour but did unfortunately take away his independence and sense of self. None of us can imagine what that must of been like for him. 

During his darkest of days, when he’d simply had enough of the cards he’d been dealt he’d still never fail to crack a smile and a joke. 

Despite all he faced, his hospital admissions, scans, surgeries, strokes and seizures  I remember him being the most resilient man I have ever known. I can’t imagine what it must be like to have your world turned on its head overnight. 

He will always be remembered for being strong, hilarious and for his love of all things sweet!

I am no means the fastest,strongest runner but during the race I will take inspiration from his resilience and take on the challenge.

That’s why I want to run this half marathon in his honour. 

As I run I will be carrying a photo of my bampy with me for us to across the finish line together & at the end I will celebrate in true Malcolm style with a box of donuts!
