Event: Helping babies survive necrotising enterocolitis like me
We're funding vital research into necrotising enterocolitis (NEC), a devastating bowel disorder that mainly strikes premature babies. Each year in the UK, hundreds of babies develop NEC and tragically, up to 35% of these babies do not survive.

Story

I'm fundraising for Action Medical Research who urgently need to raise the first £20,000 towards a vital piece of research into necrotising enterocolitis (NEC).Premature babies are among those most susceptible to this life-threatening condition, which affects up to one in 20 babies in neonatal units. It strikes rapidly and babies need urgent treatment.Tragically, in many cases once NEC is identified it can already be too late.

My son arlo unfortunately got hit with this horrible disease he was born at 30 weeks weighing a teeny 2lbs 3 and gradually got weaker and weaker the hospital ran a series of tests and then we learnt that he had NEC. The disease had already got the better of him and had spread to his bowels and  liver which had to be removed and was replaced with a colostomy bag.

The surgery lasted approximately six hours which was an absolute nightmare on such a tiny baby and as a first-time parent we was not even aware that things like this existed, arlo was placed in intensive care and had about 6% survival rate, the doctors told us to come and say goodbye. Miraculously this little fighter pulled through but unfortunately not all babies have enough fight in them.

We really need to raise awareness and get as much medical help as we can so more babies and parents will never have to go through this there is so much but so little we know about this disease. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and please donate and help ❤️ Jade
