It would be so Rude for me not to do this!
Hey guys, so anybody that knows me knows how important this cause is to my heart and its especially raw at this present moment in my life. But this fund raiser has popped up at the perfect time because I am back in action after my own endo surgery and ready to walk as many kilometers as I can from October 2nd to November 2nd to raise funds to support Endohelp and to raise awareness and education to rid woman of this awful disease.
My Endo Journey (Story)!
So back in 2016 I presented at my local GP because I just felt like something wasn’t right on the inside and my periods sucked the life out of me. This led me to having multiple ultrasounds and a referral to the mercy for women hospital. I was so excited to have my appointment because they were going to help me figure out what was happening and fix it. Well that wasn’t the case I had 3 appointments with the hospital in which I was told “Going by what you're telling us, and your ultrasound results your symptoms are not bad at all, look you may have Endometriosis, but women don’t usually find out until there trying to conceive and you're not trying to conceive so my advice is to just start taking the pill you'll be fine”. I left the hospital every time feeling deflated and not heard! And thinking I don’t want to take the pill. (I hear a lot of women that have had the same situation) so that was a dead end....
Fastforward to 2019 I was having a conversation with a beautiful friend of mine who said to me “Jade I think it's time you went and saw a private specialist” and she gave me the number to Dr Phillip Thomas, this is where my endo journey really starts.
I had my first appointment with Dr Thomas, and it was the first time I felt heard in 3 years. Within a month I had had an ultrasound with Dr Sofia Piessens and an appointment with a bowel specialist Dr Ian Hastie and I was diagnosed with stage 4 Endometriosis and needed to have laparoscopic surgery to be 100% sure, with a possible bowel resection and a chance of having a colposcopy bag (Stoma) for 12 weeks.
April 29th 2021 operation day I was nervous and excited all at the same time! I said to Dr Hastie “so what are the chances I end up with a Stoma bag”, He said “5% chance” I was like I like them odds I can deal with that I've got this (thinking I won't get a stoma). And in I went.
My operation went for 7 and a half hours and ended up being a very complex surgery and I woke with a bloody stoma bag!!!! I knew my recovery just got a whole lot harder and boy was it so hard, I had every obstacle throw itself at me in the last 16 weeks and multiple hospital visits which left me knowing nurses on a first name bases and having a common ward... good old 7grey😊
I've had my reversal operation and everything is back in its place and I’m feeling so much better now and nearly healed and I'm ready to smash this fund raiser out of the ballpark!
It makes me emotional that some women won’t have the ability or the option to be able to see a private specialist and be heard! and get the care they need.
So, guys please help me support this cause so we can help all the women out there living with ENDO!
Every little bit helps
Much Love Jade
