SleepOut for LandAid - London · 27 February 2020 to 28 February 2020 ·
On Thursday 27 February, I will be spending one night outside, to help prevent young people from facing the same prospect, every night. This year, around 86,000 young people in the UK will be homeless.
But what does that really mean? Homelessness is more than just sleeping on the streets. While this can be the most dangerous, and most visible, form of homelessness, it is just the tip of the iceberg. Homelessness means not having a place to call home, a place that is private, secure, affordable and where you have a right to stay.
The sad truth is that people forced to sleep on the streets are more likely to be LGBT+, more likely to have mental health issues, more likely to have suffered abuse- and once on the streets, far more likely to suffer violence. The average age of death for someone forced to sleep rough is 44.
Donations go directly to LandAid, the property industry charity working to end youth homelessness in the UK. Not only do they provide accommodation for young people who have been homeless, but they provide support, property advice, and help to those at risk of homelessness.
