Uni Of Southampton RAG Fight Night · 19 March 2022

We aim to support communities by providing public access defibrillators which are available 24/7. Thames Valley Heartbeat also provides free confidence building familiarisation sessions on CPR and the use of a defibrillator. Cardiac arrest is a leading cause of premature death, but with immediate treatment, many lives can be saved. The heart stops because the electrical rhythm that controls the heart is replaced by a disorganised electrical rhythm. The quicker this can be treated, the greater the chance of successful resuscitation. Cardiac arrest can be reversible, but it is vital it is recognised and acted upon in the first few seconds or minutes. Lives can be saved by CPR and the use of a defibrillator.

Story

This will be the second fight night I have been a part of and given the result of the last one I wanted to give it another try. The club and cause are both small and inspiring and I would just like to do my bit.

Themes Valley Heartbeat raise money to put things like defibrillators around the local area so that they can hopefully help in the case of an emergency. It is such a great charity that does so much for the local community so I wanted to give something back.

I think it is also worth mentioning the irony of me boxing to raise money for a medical charity.
