Story
The Isle of Wight Ultra Challenge is a 106km (66 miles) walk around the Isle of Wight across two days. With a 1100m climb on the first day, followed by a 980m climb on the second, we estimate it will take us between 12-16 hours each day to complete.
This will be both a physical, and mental, fitness challenge, and a rather special weekend for the both of us. The IoW Ultra Challenge weekend will be the anniversary of the car accident that we were unfortunately in this time last year, whereby both physiotherapy and lots and lots (and lots) of walking, has helped us both to (mostly) physically recover since. But it is also the birthday weekend of what would have been Lucy's dad's 70th birthday. It is with Cliff in mind, that we have decided to walk in his name as a tribute to him, and look forward to toasting a glass of bubbly in his honour at the finishing line!
We hope to use this opportunity of madness to raise money for an incredible cause, African Adventures, and hope that with your help, we will be able to help them in reaching their target of £10,000 to ensure food security for the 1350 children who attend their partner schools in Kenya, for the second half of this year. Any donation you can make, no matter how big or small, will mean so much to us.
African Adventures is a small charity that is partnered with over 20 schools in developing areas of Ghana, Kenya and Zanzibar, and organise life-changing trips for people who want to help bring their work to life. They pride themselves on their ethical, sustainable volunteering model that puts their partner schools at the heart of everything they do. Their partner schools tell them what help they want, and African Adventures recruit volunteers from the UK and beyond to make it happen. Whether it’s building a new classroom or installing new sanitation facilities, African Adventures put their needs first. It's an incredible charity that with your support, can make a huge difference.
