In February, our world was turned upside down when our son, Rex, became seriously ill. At first, we were told he could have Burkitt lymphoma, but after being transferred to Evelina London Children’s Hospital and admitted to intensive care, we finally got the correct diagnosis – a very rare and life-threatening immune disorder called HLH (Haemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis). The weeks that followed were incredibly difficult, with countless tests, treatments and medications, but thanks to the outstanding care from the doctors, specialists and nurses at Evelina, Rex fought through it and is now doing so much better.

During our six-week stay, Ronald McDonald House gave us a place to stay so we could both remain close to Rex throughout his treatment, something that meant more to us than words can express.

I’m taking on the London Landmarks Half Marathon to raise money for Evelina as a way of saying thank you. The care, compassion and dedication shown to Rex and our family were nothing short of incredible, and we’ll be forever grateful. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help Evelina continue providing the same life-saving care and support to other children and families when they need it most.
