Jake's Moroccan Atlas Mountains Trek 2019

Plymouth RAG does the Moroccan Atlas mountain trek · 20 June 2019 ·
In June 2019, I will be trekking across the High Atlas Mountains in Morocco and to the summit of Mount Toubkal to raise money for Mind - The Mental Health Charity. I will be doing this as part of the Plymouth University RAG society.
Reaching 4,167 m above sea level, Toubkal is not only the highest peak in the Atlas Mountains but also North Africa and the Arab World. It’s an exciting opportunity for me to challenge myself, discover Morocco and raise money for a really important cause at the same time!
The work Mind does is sometimes the difference between life and death. The greatest cause of death among men under the age of 35 is suicide and 1 in 4 people in any given year suffer from a mental health condition. Far too often, people feel isolated, scared and misunderstood and they lock it all up because they feel they will be a burden on others or they don’t think people will understand. Mind gives people in these situations a place to turn when they need it most and that’s why I am supporting them on this challenge.
Another aspect of Mind’s work that I am keen to support is the Blue Light Programme. This programme provides mental health support for emergency services staff and volunteers across England and Wales. According to independent research by Mind, members of the emergency services are less likely to seek support, but are even more at risk of experiencing a mental health problem than the general public.
