National 3 Peaks Challenge in 24 Hours · 29 June 2019

St Helena's core services are free and are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Two thirds of our funding comes from the amazing support we receive from people like you. Fundraising in memory of a loved one? You might like to create a Timeless Tribute Fund: timelesstributefunds.org.uk

Story

We have undertaken minor challenges for the Hospice over the years but thought it was now time to start upping the ante! So June 2019 we are taking on the challenge of climbing the three highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales and all in 24 hours!

This is considered one of Britain’s toughest outdoor challenges, the National 3 Peaks Challenge takes in the dizzy heights of Ben Nevis (1,344m), Scafell Pike (978m) and Snowdon (1,085m).

The motivation is to complete the challenge within the 24 hours but mostly to try and raise some money for St Helena Hospice which is a special place and somewhere we have experienced first-hand. The care and dignity provided for the whole family during tough times & beyond were second to none.

We have spent 3 periods of time in the Hospice (long & short) where we sadly said goodbye to our Dad Andy in 2011 and our Mum Joanne in 2015, before that our Grandad Joe also passed peacefully at the Hospice in 2005.
Honestly, we can't thank the brilliant Hospice staff enough for how they are able to provide such a kind environment and service which allows the family to be with there loved ones in peace and privacy.

Despite the sadness we have encountered at the Hospice, we only have positive thoughts about the place and people there. Our hope is that any money raised can help to make a small contribution to continuing the work they do and helping other families the way they have ours during these periods.

We also took the option to use the Hospice bereavement counselling program which is another free service provided for people whom have lost loved ones at the Hospice. That aftercare proved really helpful to us and highlights how the organisation continue to support families after a bereavement.

We would be super grateful for any donation possible so we can give back to the Hospice in a small way, as the St Helena Hospice rely heavily on the help and generosity of fundraisers, donors and volunteers.

Thank you

Jake & Sam
