Story

“I love my great grandma, and I love gaming so I thought I’d do the gameathon as a little tribute!”

On Christmas day, I learnt that my 94 year old Great Grandma, who we called GG, had passed away. Despite an 80 year age gap we had lots in common and that included a shared love of football - although she supported the wrong team - as well as enjoying board games and cards, which we played a lot at family Christmas gatherings.

GG had been ill for some time, and actually passed away alone in hospital after catching coronavirus. Because she lived over a 100 miles away, me and my sister had not been able to see her for more than a year due to the pandemic. That meant we couldn't visit or say our goodbyes. We weren't even able to do a funeral or celebrate her life.

So instead, I thought I'd remember my great grandma, by raising funds in her memory, and to support my local hospice – so other families who lose loved ones receive support and bereavement care when it matters most.

I've decided to challenge myself to a 12 hour marathon on my Xbox as part of St Margaret's Gameathon. I hope some of my friends and even family may join me during the day, and that my mum remembers to feed me!

If you can show your support I'd really appreciate it so we can raise as much money as possible for the hospice. Thank you!
