Story
My name is Jakob Morris. I am a neuroscience student at King's College London and am passionate about the research of Alzheimer's. This passion has come from a combination of genuine curiosity and personal drive. For 2 years I worked at Prince Philip Hospital as a domestic and in that time was often working in the adult mental health unit which managed mainly late-stage Alzheimer patients who could no longer live without specialist hospital care. I also lost my grandfather to the disease and wanted to do something for him, so here I am.
Anyone who has lost someone to this disease or worked with its victims knows it is a heinous condition that robs people of the ability to die with their memories, personality and dignity intact. As well as slowly taking from families and friends the individual they love.
There are over 900,000 dementia sufferers in the UK now, with Alzheimer's being the most common form of dementia. the ONS reported that Alzheimer's and other dementias were the largest cause of death in 2022. Alzheimer's is a very complex disease and its mechanism is not fully understood, it is only through developing our understanding, and conducting research, that we can help the millions of people globally suffering from this condition. Please donate to my JustGiving page, all donations go directly to Alzheimer's Research UK.
