Assalam O Alaykum / peace be upon you all,
I have set up this page for my 13 year old son Jamal Akoub who is participating in the 3k Glasgow Junior Run and hoping Insha Allah (God willing) to fundraise for Islamic relief who have teamed up with DEC to help those suffering in East Africa as a result of the drought and to try and meet there needs.
For me this is as important as I want my son to be able to see the generosity of people and to encourage him to take further steps to help those in need.
The money you donate will go a long way in providing water solutions, helping children with education, delivering food parcels to those who have barely anything to eat, and much more. 100% of the money donated goes directly to Islamic relief.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
£14 can provide a child with high energy food supplements for a week
£50 can provide clean water to 1000 people
£100 can provide emergency food to 100 families per day
£150 can treat 10 malnourished children for a month
£350 can help provide an orphans package
So please dig deep and donate now.
Remember, you're not giving the money to me or Jamal, you are giving it to Islamic Relief who will use this money towards their various projects.
A huge thank you and JazakAllah Khair. May Allah reward you all in this precious and blessed month of Ramadhan.

Background:
The drought in the Horn of Africa is affecting nearly over 10 million people from across Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia. A deadly combination of successive failed rains and rising food prices has resulted in the worst drought the region has seen for 60 years.
Many people have lost their livelihoods. Livestock in the region is seen as a source of income and food. For some people, their livestock is everything. Islamic Relief is already witnessing people crossing the border from Somalia into Kenya as they attempt to flee the drought that affects their country. Islamic Relief is also seeing an increased number of families arriving in Mogadishu and other areas trying to escape the drought and find a means to feed their family.
In Kenya, the food prices are at an all time high as a result of a decrease in livestock. The largest refugee camp in the world is in Kenya, on the Somali-Kenya border, with over 300,000 inhabitants. Islamic Relief has observed an increased number of cases of malnutrition and diarrhoea in children which is deadly in the current conditions.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "The believer's shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity." - Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 604
The Prophet also said: "Every act of goodness is charity." - Sahih Muslim, Hadith 496
