A Papworth research team has developed a new technique that has significantly increased the number of hearts available for transplantation; the development of which relies solely on charitable funds

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Some of the fitter Brown family members and Hazard Chase staff, under the expert, but largely stationary, supervision of myself, are running in Chariots of Fire on 18th September 2016 to raise money for Papworth Hospital Charity, which is very local to us, and also prominent nationally and internationally.

Chariots of Fire is an annual relay race around the historic centre of Cambridge, with teams of six runners, each running 1.7 miles.

Papworth are seeking to respond to the worldwide shortage of donor hearts and have identified a new source - known as non-beating heart donors. This technique could increase the number of hearts available for transplantation by 40% and save hundreds of lives as the transplant waiting list continues to grow.

Their innovative and ground-breaking technique enables surgeons to utilise donor hearts which were previously considered too damaged
to transplant. However, in order to deliver this technique the hospital needs to secure funding; to date the programme has only been made possible through the generosity of charitable gifts.

We, and they, would be very grateful for any support you can offer.
