The Full Ridgeway · 14 June 2014

Naomi House & Jacksplace hospices provide 24 hour care to more than 550 life limited and life threatened children and young adults from across central southern England. We offer respite, community, emergency, end of life and post bereavement care on good days, difficult days and last days.

Story

Team Unobtanium is back, this time we are expanding.

Back in 2012 we did an organised race  and did a Just Giving page to support Dorothy House and CF Trust, two charities that we had links with. The team was Paul Doughty, Rob Fling, Rob Brown and Sam (James) Brown ( yes my mum named her son James Brown), and in 2011 I rode half the ridgeway with my younger brother for The British Heart Foundation.

I thought this was the end of my fundraising - just riding for fun, the occasional race and of course Strava (that I said I would never do) and now I am totally addicted.

So in March we attended an event called 'Jam for Jade' a tribute for a Friend with Kerry my lovely wife, and I left the event full of emotion and wanting to help this amazing charity, it was an amazing event, not the biggest, but the warmth and realising how many family and friends we were surrounded by - you forget how lucky you are at times.

So now its time to give something back.

Where to start? Team Unobtanium, you must be mad! We have been overwhelmed by the support that we have received from so many people since the loss of our beautiful little girl in June 2012.

Words cannot begin to express the pride we feel in knowing that our little angel has left such a legacy, and that people are still wanting to support Naomi House in her memory.

We had used Naomi House for respite since the end of 2001. Without their support we would never have coped with the ups and downs of life with a child with a life limiting condition. Even if we were not due a break, they were always there at the end of the phone if we just needed someone to vent at.

When we took Jade for breaks at Naomi House, we always heaved a sigh of relief turning into the driveway. Knowing that we had a few days to just be Mummy and Daddy and play with Jade whilst someone else took responsibility for the medical side of her care was amazing. If we felt we needed to have some time to ourselves, we could leave Jade and go shopping or to the cinema. Things we'd taken for granted before having Jade.

For 11 years we used the support given by Naomi House and even in the last few days of her life they were there. We took Jade there for palliative care in her last few days and they gave her dignity and respect and gave us a constant support. Nearly 2 years later and we still know we can pick up the phone if we are having a tough time and need a chat.

Naomi House is entirely charity run and supports numerous families throughout the south of the UK. Please support Team Unobtanium in this event and help an amazing charity.

Thank you

For the 87 Miles
Sam Brown, Garry Miles, Mark Jenkins.

The Plan Stan
87 miles from Ivinghoe Beacon near Dunstabal then back to Avebury, Sounds easy right? This will be two days of hacking our way down the ridgeway, big hills, lots of climbing, chalk, clay and flint, hopfully sunshine and not too much dust, water or mud!!
We will hopefully stop over at the halfway point.
This will not be easy.

Also - on the second day we would like to invite any one who is able to take part in the final sections, you can choose how far you would like to ride, be it 30 miles or 3 miles, we just thought it would be quite a sight to have a crowd of us coming over the finish line together.

We will post updates on how to join in a bit closer to the event, so keep an eye out on this page.
