London Marathon 2018 · 22 April 2018 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page for the London Marathon on Sunday 22nd April 2018.
Being a deaf person has fundamentally shaped my life, in the most part for the better but sometimes for the worse. Anyone who knows me will know that being deaf can have its lighter moments, but more often than not it can be incredibly frustrating. A recent example is when the subtitles stopped working in the last 15 minutes of Spideman - have you ever tried to lip-read Spiderman?!
I have been extremely lucky throughout my life to have fantastic support networks - my family, my friends, my colleagues and various health and education professionals. I know how important these people have been whenever I've been feeling isolated or left behind in a predominantly hearing world. Other people may not have been so lucky.
I'm running this marathon for those people. I want to help Action on Hearing Loss to reach more people of all levels of hearing loss or tinnitus. Hearing loss is too often seen as a minor inconvenience - more people need to be aware of how damaging hearing loss can be; how easy it is to be forgotten, how easy it is to let it get you down and how it can affect relationships.
