Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

This year the both of us have decided to do the Great North Run for the first time in aid of a charity which is a big part of our lives now and is very close to our hearts.

Late last year, after months of testing and investigation our loving, caring, handsome little boy was a diagnosed with BMD (becker muscular dystrophy) a rare form of a muscle wasting disease meaning a simple task of simply walking can be testing for him at times to which a wheelchair is required.

When told the awful news by the professor that our son has BMD it was utterly devastating. Explaining to us that he will struggle with sports and other physical activities over the years and will become more wheelchair dependant as his muscles get weaker is the worst. Our job as parents is to care and look after our children and when told that there is nothing you can do to make him better you are left feeling helpless and heartbroken. Thats when the Great North Run comes in......

We knew that we wanted to do something to try and help, not just our son, but others affected by these muscle wasting conditions. which is why we both felt that doing this world famous half marathon it would help raise money in order to try and find a cure to this disease and others like it but also raise awareness of these muscle conditions. It is the least we can do try and help where we can. Yes it will be tough and tiring but our muscles will repair unfortunately for some though this is not the case.

In advance we thank you for all your donations and support to raise as much possible it really does mean a lot to us and even more to Rhys.
