Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity is dedicated to supporting the PRM neonatal unit, in Glasgow. Using funds donated by our supporters, we help the unit to buy equipment, and enable projects, that directly help the babies looked after on the unit.

Story

We are asking for your help in raising funds to help support the amazing work done for babies and families in the neonatal unit at the PRM.

For most people having a baby is a natural joyous straightforward event, however unfortunately in a minority of cases this is not the case.

We became aware of this when our daughter was born prematurely and required a short stay in the neonatal unit.

During that time we were able to witness many fragile babies and see photos of babies who had been born as early as 24 weeks. We spoke to families and became aware of the stresses and impact these extended stays made on the lives of the families of these children. However in every single case we saw families being treated with care, compassion and expertise. When families are at the most vulnerable it cannot be over emphasised how important the haven that the staff create is important to families.

At a time of extreme government cuts and with the increasing number of premature babies with potentially positive life expectancy, then the need for specialised equipment has outstripped government and health board funding.

Money raised will be donated to the neonatal fund which could go towards new equipment, more resources for families, improvements to parent facilities or additional staff training. All of which could help to improve the unit further, ensuring more babies and families receive the best care possible.
