Story

In 2016 James received the news that he had bone cancer in his right knee and femur which had also spread into his lungs.

James was faced with an 8-month course of treatment at the Bristol children’s hospital, also Birmingham Orthopaedic Hospital, and Plymouth’s Derriford Hospital.

Young Lives V Cancer provided James and his family with support and a place to stay in Bristol so they could be together during this time. They also made sure that they had access to grants, funding and benefits.

Thankfully after a gruelling year of treatment James was given the all-clear and the freedom to live life again.

Unfortunately the cancer returned in 2020, and James had more treatment and eventually the complete hindquarter amputation of his right leg to try and save him. Sadly the cancer was so aggressive that James passed away in July 2022 peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He is loved and missed terribly by all who knew him.

Throughout this journey people have wanted to try and find some way to show James & his family how much they cared. Many have taken part in fundraising for Young Lives V Cancer, previously known as Clic Sargent. It has given such a comfort to see how much money has been raised during James’s illness and also in his memory since he passed away so that other young people and their families can continue to receive the same wonderful support as the Marlow’s.
