Story

This year I am going to walk the Camino de Santiago, a 500mile (800km) pilgrimage through France and Spain, for the St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP). I am walking for all the wonderful Vincentians in 1,067 Conferences throughout our Nation. They visit people in their homes, in Residential Care, Prisons and Hospitals...they do soup runs, debt counselling, run furniture stores and holidays for needy children...they care for drug users, sex workers and give pastoral support if requested....they give help to asylum seekers and refugees where needed.....and one day maybe 'you' if you ever fall into one of the above categories.

And now a little about me...I am a 73 year old father of six children and eight grand children. To allay your concerns I am fit and an experienced walker!
Throughout my working life I have travelled the world but always kept my eyes open!...I have seen open sewers...and filthy water supplies...drug and alcohol addiction...hungry peoples and two in a bed wards in hospitals. And all the time I remembered the 'pennies' my school in Ireland collected to support ‘The Missions’ worldwide. It's my turn now to help the 'marginalised' through SVP and my 2017 Camino.

I will carry my 16 pound backpack 500 miles, for 31 days, through the highest pass in the Pyrenees at 5,354 feet if you do the hard part by raising and donating as much as you can gather for this project. I plan to commence April 28th, subject to snow line in Pyrenees.
I will hopefully have ‘a blog’, accessible through https://svp.org.uk where you can check my updates and progress. This will be subject to Wi-Fi and battery charging facilities along ‘The Way’.

Thank you and please remember; YOU  are “Turning Concern into Action” by responding to this request.
