Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I guess the best way to start my reason, or my story is that I'm an 80's child, father of 3 children and a husband. The eldest of my 3 children (also called James) was born with right proximal femoral focal deficiency (PFFD) with a severely hypoplastic femur. At 10 months old, he had a right symes amputation, this means a below the knee amputation, but in James' case, he had no femur (thigh bone) so it was his foot that was amputated. The decision to operate was to enable him to wear a prosthesis.

Becoming a parent for the first time can be a shock to the system, but a child with limb difference was an even greater unknown to us. As a  parent you always set out to give them the best life possible, and that sometimes means receiving advice and support from doctors, medical experts, other parents and charities dedicated to supporting people like James.

At various points throughout James' life, LimbPower have helped us with advice, supported us in gaining access to the Childrens Prosthetic fund and in other instances connecting us with other charities and organisations. This support has helped James to thrive even more. He takes a greater involvement in PE at school, he attends kickboxing, and continues to show great resilience, and makes us proud every day.

LimbPower is a national charity and a National Disability Sports Organisation. They were created to engage with amputees and individuals with limb impairments in exercise, physical activity, sports & the arts to improve quality of life & to aid lifelong rehabilitation. I will forever be grateful for the support they have shown James, including myself and his mother. This is why I have chosen to take part in the charity skydive on the 7th May 2022 at Netheravon - the home of the Army Parachute Association. The funds raised will go towards LimbPower's Physical Activity Advisor Programme.
