We believe every moment matters so we go above and beyond to help our patients and their families make the most of every moment they have left. All our services are free of charge. We receive 33% of our funding from the NHS and rely on donations to raise the extra £13m we need each year.

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our Just Giving Page.

James – our incredible father, friend, husband, motivator, all-round life coach – always did things his way. Never one to settle, James brought passion, creativity and a big dollop of joy to everything he did.

James was in every sense a people person. He had an incredible talent for making every person he spoke to feel like the only person in the room, showing genuine interest and appreciation for all things. His wit and charm could not go unmissed in a crowd, and no dinner party or family gathering will ever sound the same again without the roars of laughter that would to emanate from whichever group James happened to be 'entertaining'.

James touched the lives of so many people. His friends, his colleagues, anyone who ever had the pleasure of working, drinking, running or gigging with James, all will attest to the great joy with which he approached life. And determination. He fought for those last ten weeks with his family, fought his way out of an intensive care unit in St Georges and made it to Royal Trinity Hospice, where he was given the greatest care by the wonderful, compassionate, caring staff at Trinity. And boy did they like James! Never one to miss the opportunity for a laugh, James kept everyone at Trinity entertained with his wry sense of humour and sarcastic eyebrow raises. Especially at the slightest mention of a pedicure.

Surrounded by the people he loved, James passed away on November 1st 2019. But he lives on – in the smiles of the people who remember him, in the memories that we cherish. In the fall-from-the-tree style humour of his children who likewise never miss the chance for an inappropriately-timed joke.

For a long time, I was mystified by how something like this could happen to a man as vibrant and joyful as James. But as a wiser young person than myself once said, the reason things like this happen to people like James is that they are simply too good for this world. And that gives us all a lot of comfort. Because James really was too good.
