Story
Riding 966 miles for Promise had a particular meaning for me. I was in my early '50s when my friend Henry Stewart challenged me to do a timed ride through the Pyrenées and so opened my eyes to the joys of serious cycling. Often since, I have thought how different my life might have been if, 35 years earlier, someone had been around to tell me that disliking rugby did not mean I was not cut out for sport. As a volunteer Promise mentor for the past two years, I have seen for myself how a weekly session with an agenda-free adult enables the disadvantaged young people helped by Promise to stop making self-destructive decisions and and start doing the things most likely to lead to rewarding employment and a fulfilling life. Promise provides these young people with ongoing opportunities to think things through, see things from other perspectives, imagine different possibilities for their lives and draw whatever useful lessons are to be learned from the experiences, good and bad, that have been had by their mentor. I hope you will want to support Promise. If you haven’t used JustGiving before, you will find it to be simple, fast and totally secure.
