Yorkshire Marathon 2021 for OSCAR's · 17 October 2021 ·

OSCAR's PBTC was set up in memory of Oscar Hughes, a 9-year-old who died of a brain tumour in 2014. His journey was heartbreaking yet inspiring. OSCAR's aims to provide support and care to children with brain tumours, raise awareness to help diagnosis and fund research into better treatments.

Story

Five years ago I volunteered to help with my 8 year old lad's football team. The main coach and organiser was a guy called Ian Hughes, a larger than life character who I learned had lost his son, Oscar, the previous year to a brain tumour.

Trying to make a positive out of such a horrendous event, he and his amazing wife Marie founded a charity to celebrate Oscar's life and to raise money to help research into the terrible thing that is childhood brain cancer.

Fast forward, and Marie lost Ian to cancer two years ago and, tragically, their youngest son little Milo also passed away last year with the same illness as his brother Oscar.

Marie and her two surviving sons are battling bravely on, and the charity their family started will continue to raise much-needed funding to try to find better treatments for this condition to help more boys and girls and their families in the future.

Like many others, its the least I can do to make some small efforts to support their work. I, and they, will be grateful for any small contribution you can make in support.

My thanks for reading.
