Story

Thank you for taking the time to read my page.

Quite simply, in a moment of madness after finishing last Octobers Yorkshire 10 miler (a run that uses the start and finish of the Yorkshire marathon) I signed up to do the full marathon exactly a year later! The time is now on me and on Sunday 16th October 2022 I will be attempting to run my very first marathon, that is 26.2 miles or 42.2km if you work that way. Before starting to train, the furthest I had run was a 1/2 marathon in a time of 2hrs 3 minutes.

I started 2022 full of good intentions and I pre-booked a number of organised runs from 10 milers to half marathons, however somehow in January I ended up with a knee injury that resulted in 4 months of no running and a referral to the hospital physio team. Fortunately by early June I was given the all clear to try to start running again and so my training started.

It was been a challenge and a big commitment to work out run times and routes throughout the summer especially when being away from home for weekend breaks, holiday and even my sister's wedding! However as I write this I have 3 weeks to go until the big day and I think I am nearly ready!

I would just like to complete the distance, ideally below 4 1/2 hrs, but we will see.

I am doing this for the personal challenge and I have paid for my own place rather than take a formal charity place, however a number of people have now asked me if I am running for sponsorship and so I thought, why not see if I can raise a few pounds towards a good cause at the same time, and so I have set up this page.

I have chosen to raise funds for a well-known local Harrogate hospice, Saint Michaels because of the support they provided my father in law, Eric, prior to the covid pandemic, in the early stages of the illness that eventually resulted in his sad passing in December 2020.

My target is £422 which is based upon £10 for every one of the 42.2km that defines the marathon I aim to run.

Thank you for reading so far and for any support you feel you can give.

If you would like to follow my progress on the day then a little nearer the time I will share my race number and details of the dedicated Yorkshire Marathon tracking app.

Thanks again James
