Story
Style Acre started as a residential care home in Oxfordshire where young adults with learning disabilities and autism were supported. In 2004, the residential home was sold & the money raised from its sale was used to purchase houses in local towns/villages. Style Acre Friends became ‘Style Acre’ & focused on providing support, while a separate charity was formed called Acre Housing, dealing with property. Supported living teams were established to enable people to live with their friends & peers, to make decisions about their lives & to use community facilities. In 2004, they were supporting 20 people & now over 240!
James & Paul Townsend are both closely involved with Style Acre. James when not at University, supports people in one of the houses. Paul was previously involved as Bank Manager for both charities, with numerous of his colleagues also undertaking various community projects with them. On his retirement Paul was delighted to accept their request to become a Trustee.
We have both been very fortunate to secure a place in the 2019 London Marathon. James - the young one will be looking for a good time, and Paul the 58 year old one, will just be hoping to finish & not need the services of his other son Alex, in the medical tent in the Mall. We are very pleased to be running in support of 'Style Acre' and any donation will be really appreciated to help this great cause.
