2021 Veterans Skihabilitation Week.

2021 Veterans Skihabilitation Week · 8 March 2021
In March 2021 Supporting Wounded Veterans will be taking 26 medically discharged Veterans to Switzerland. With the help of specialist adaptive ski instructors, buddies, medics and support teams this will be the start of their rehabilitation back into employment.
I served for 9 years in the British Army and I was lucky enough to come through various Operational Tours unscathed. Many of my comrades then and since are not so lucky and a significant number have been discharged from the Forces with life changing injuries. Supporting Wounded Veterans helps those who have served and can no longer do so to reappraise, reset their lives and careers and , especially, recognise their strengths and believe that there is a worthwhile future ahead of them.
I have been selected to be a Buddy to a Veteran for a week as they tackle the challenge of learning to ski despite their injuries as a way of building their confidence in themselves, strengthening their resilience and showing them that the seemingly 'impossible is possible'.
As a Buddy I will be paired with a Veteran. My commitment is to that
person; I will not be teaching but engaging with, encouraging and, where necessary, supporting my paired Veteran on and, perhaps more importantly, off piste. My aim is to build a positive relationship that endures beyond the week based on our shared experience and understanding of the personal, practical and physical challenges he or she have faced, are facing and will face.
Part of my role as a Buddy is to raise much needed funds for the Charity to continue work with Veterans. So please donate to this amazing cause.
