Bupa Great Manchester Run 2014 · 18 May 2014 ·

The SDF enables underprivileged children & adults to develop their potential by funding education, instruction or training in professions, vocations, industries or the skills needed in employment. Our first fund-raising project is a scholarship scheme for street children in Manila, the Philippines.

Story

On Sunday 18th May I will be running in the Manchester 10k and later on in September I will be running the Wigan 10k. I am running on behalf of the Simon Drew foundation, a charity set up by my cousin Alex, which helps children in poverty in the Philippines to attend vocational training and education. These are the first runs I have ever done, having never done anything over a mile until this year, and I’m willing to run the second of them in costume if I get enough donations.

Any donation, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated! They do some really good work with very little money so I know anything people can spare would really make a difference. You can donate online (see below) or directly to me. Costume suggestions are welcome from all and I’ll put a vote out closer to the time.

 About the Charity:

The foundation funds scholarships that assist children in the critical period after their formal state education ends where a lot of them have no support and fall back into poverty. The foundation has had a lot of challenges since the floods in Manilla but has still been able to support children affected by that tragedy to complete courses in electrical engineering, hotel management and other useful skills that have allowed them to gain employment and help their families escape the slum conditions they were brought up in.
