Story
My Dad (Dave to his pals) was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2020. You don’t realise the impact Alzheimer’s can do to someone and their loved ones, until you encounter it. Eventually my dad will forget who his grandchildren are and who his own family are. Everyday my Dad’s memories are starting to fade, where his routine is vital to keeping him at ease. For me the more awareness I can make, will only help support those who also have to encounter this horrible disease. Right now it’s about making as many memories we can for our family.
In Autumn, I will be taking on the Royal Parks Half Marathon and raising funds for a vital cause. This will be my third half marathon, the motivation of knowing how so many people come together to donate money, is the drive that makes you succeed. Thank you in advance for supporting my huge challenge and donating whatever you can, it will make a massive difference.
This Poem sums it up fully for us:-
Help me to remember
What I forget each day.
Don't let the dementia
Take my memories away.
Keep reminding me
What we used to do,
And always remember
I'll always love you.
You are my beautiful child,
That will never change.
Though the dementia
Will make me act strange,
It's not my fault, my love.
It's the dementia that I have.
It's what is does to you,
So try not to be sad.
Just hold my hand
And try to reassure me.
If I'm very confused
Just change the story.
At times I will be there.
I'll remember little things,
But then it will fade again
And sadness it will bring.
